We’ll be hitting up Fan Expo again this year, and while August seems like a lifetime away, they have announced a few of the guests. P-Stew is the guest of honour. You know P-Stew, he was the CP, the PROF X, King LDG? Okay, I’m stretching on that last one, but still: Patrick Stewart!! He was my captain of Enterprise, and I still can’t decide if Kirk or Picard was the better captain. That’s awesome news, but you want to know what’s also awesome? Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith are going to be at Fan Expo doing a special live Podcast of “Jay and Silent Bob Get Old”. I’m excited, and since we’re months away, those guests are just going to keep rolling in. Maybe this will be the year YOU go to Fan Expo!
If you’re in our store over the next couple of days, you may notice that the stock is looking a little slim. Fear not, we’re not closing, nor did you miss an enormous sale, nor did we get robbed. What is happening is about half of our stuff went to Toronto for Fan Expo! We still have all the local favorites in our store (Pokemon, Angry Birds, Beyblades, etc.) as well as the majority of our board games, but some of the other stuff may be in the back of a truck as we speak on its way to Canada’s biggest nerdfest! If you’re in Toronto this weekend, you should ch-ch-ch-check it out! It’s going to be crazy.
Another great line-up of hockey stars will be showing up at this spring Expo 2011….Mark Messier, Chris Chelios, Johnny Bower, Yvan Cournoyer, Bobby Hull, Fergie Jenkins, Rod Carew and more. Show date is April 29, 30 and May 1. Check out http://sportcardexpo.com/ for the full schedule.
With over 100,000 square feet of convention space, this is the largest show in Canada. As usual, we will be there shopping. Last year, we picked up some nice signed Ottawa Senators jerseys (Daniel Alfredsson, Nick Foligno, to name a few). Admission is $12 for adults and $3 for kids aged 6 to 12. The weekend pass is just $25 and well worth it for a weekend of fun. We also have some McFarlane hockey figures that you can bring to the show and get autographs.
So last weekend was Anime North and for the first time ever featured the Toys On Fire crew! Everyone there had a blast and we’re confident we made an impression on the anime crowd. For those who don’t know, Anime North is the biggest Anime Convention in Canada, bringing in over 18000 people from all over the world! Props to all the great costumes we saw, and boy was there a variety! Now that it’s over though, we can’t wait for next year when we get to do it all again!
