End Cap Pre-Boxing Day Sale Time

Thursday, December 22nd, 2011

Dear Loyal Readers,

I assume you are all consumer-savvy enough to know what an End Cap is.

Dear Not-So-Loyal Readers,

An End Cap are those smaller areas on the end of an aisle where we put things we want you to see. They’re called End Caps because they Cap the End of the aisle. They actually keep the aisle from falling over. The more you know!

So now that you’re all filled in, those special spots in our store are now covered in sale items! One End Cap has $5 items, and one has $2 items! This is what we like to call our “Pre-Boxing Day Sales”. How’s that for original? We have things like Rocky toys, Zhu Zhu Pets, Tracksters, and a lot more! Come have a gander!

Movies at the Mayfair

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

I’m a big fan of the Mayfair Theatre and since this marks the start of another month, it means there’s going to be new programming! See, I can talk about this ’cause I can tie it all into action figures that we have here.

So, first up on Sunday, September 5th at 9:00PM the Mayfair will be showing The Crow!

Somehow this movie (for me) is not very good and really fantastic all at the same time. It’s not even a “so bad it’s good” movie. It’s somehow simultaneously bad and good. Also, for whatever reason, Brandon Lee is really cool and Jay looks an awful lot like him.

Next up on September 14th starting at 7:00 the May will be showing Rocky III and Rocky IV!

Rocky III is the one that has both Mr. T and Hulk Hogan in it. That pretty much does it for me right there, but you know that we also have guys from Rocky IV too!

The last movie I should mention is being played on Saturday, September 25th at 3:00PM and Sunday, 26th at 8:00PM. It’s Batman: The Movie!

This isn’t your Dark Knight, or even your Tim Burton Batman. This is Adam West Batman. Arguably the most entertaining of the Batmans. While we don’t have anything Adam West Batman in particular, we do have our fair share of Batmans here at the store.

Well, that about sums it up. If you haven’t checked out the Mayfair Theatre at Bank and Sunnyside, you should really see it. It’s a great old theatre with a totally different vibe from the multiplexes. They play some great matinées on the weekend for kids, some great old cult movies late at the night for the adults, and some of the more obscure, current movies playing in between. Prices are really good too, especially if you’re a member.

Also, don’t forget to buy toys from Toys on Fire! :^)

THE EXPENDABLES – Sequel Already in the Works!

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

The Hollywood Reporter has great news for anyone who loved this weekend’s number one flick, The Expendables (read: my mother, who adored it): It’s going to be getting a sequel!

At the cusp of a fifth decade of action-movie mayhem, Sylvester Stallone says his No. 1 opening with “The Expendables” ranks among his top career thrills. The muscle-bound multihyphenate chewed the fat with THR’s Carl DiOrio about the successful launch of the Lionsgate-distributed picture, which follows the exploits of a group of foreign mercenaries featuring some of the past decades’ biggest action stars.

THR: So “The Expendables” opened bigger than anything else you have directed. It seems you’re still setting personal bests.

Stallone: I didn’t do this all by myself. It was a movie about teamwork, and the team helped make it a success. I always say that if you are a star — even a faded star — the light never goes out. You just need to rekindle it.

THR: Have you written a script for a sequel to ‘The Expendables’?

Stallone: It’s plotted out in my mind’s eye. I believe this group has to continue to evolve; it just can’t become the same people. So how do you get new people introduced into the group, and how do you have some of the other people leaving? Those are the challenges.

THR: So the challenges remain, eh?

Stallone: My proudest moment ever was not “Rocky,” it was the last Rocky picture, “Rocky Balboa.” To be able to meet the challenge of completing that series after all these years, that was great. But this one here tops that — not in an emotional way but for excitement. This should have never happened. (Producer) Avi Lerner really took a big gamble on me with this when nobody else would. I know because I heard about it every day! He kept worrying about the reviews.

THR: ‘The Expendables’ was never going to be a critical darling.

Stallone: Most action films tend to rub people the wrong way. This is not to disparage critics, but the more physical and brutal an action film is, the least well it is received. It’s actually a barometer I use. That, and how many times I hurt myself.

THR: Things turned out well enough though.

Stallone: I never thought we would win this weekend, as we were up against some tough competition. I told Lionsgate and (CEO) Jon Feltheimer and Avi that I’m so grateful how those guys just dug in. Lionsgate hung tough and opened the purses. The campaign worked because it was honest. What you saw in the campaign was what you got. This movie is pure escapism. You just buckle up and enjoy a rocket ship ride down memory lane.
