FINALLY! I’ve been wanting to play as Dark Knight Returns (aka Super Beefy Batman) ever since the game came out! Unfortunately, I have to pay $5 to get the whole pack, but you do get quite a few skins for the Batman. Check it out:
1970s Batsuit Skin
Year One Batman Skin
The Dark Knight Returns Skin
Earth One Batman Skin
Batman Beyond Batman Skin
Animated Batman Skin
Sinestro Corps Batman Skin
Pretty much all the Batmans (Batmen?) you could ever ask for, although Witchfinder Batman would be pretty cool too.
According to Comic Book Resources (who got their info from Diamond) “50.97 percent in units sold — up from 35.74 percent and 43.04 percent the previous month.” That means that more than one of every two comics sold last month was published by DC. Rock on, DC, it’s good to see all that hard work and mind-boggling reboots are paying off. I’m contributing to their sales by buying Scott Snyder’s Batman. It’s a really good comic and I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to read about Batman. Hopefully we’ll get to see some Batman action figures soon!
Hollywood Life shows off a new photo of ANNE HATHAWAY as SELINA KYLE in the upcoming third entry to the Nolan Batman franchise, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. She’s definitely reminiscent of Adam Hughes’ retro-styled Selina and it’s a heartening glimpse at what should be a very interesting character.
In these new photos, Anne Hathaway looks purrrfect as Catwoman’s chic-looking alter-ego Selina Kyle.
Anne was shot on the L.A. set of the upcoming film The Dark Knight Rises shooting scenes as her alter-ego—not as the leather-catsuit-wearing vixen scene in publicity stills released last month by Warner Bros.
Anne’s alter ego was as chic as ever, wearing a black dress and cropped jacket, gloves (how prim and proper!), a wide-brimmed hat and heels. She topped off the ensemble with bright red lipstick and pearl earrings.
For another scene, taking place in the winter, Anne wore a full-length black coat and strappy heels, with her hair pulled back in a bun, as she hailed a cab.
Also spotted on the set, was Christian Bale, who plays Batman in the franchise. While the scenes look interesting, little is known about the storyline for the film, which also stars Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. But who cares about the storyline? Anne looks amazing!
For the first time ever, Toys on Fire Ottawa will be attending the Montreal ComicCon this year. Along with Fan Expo, this will be the 2nd big show we are debuting at this year. We are hoping that both of these should be successful and lots of fun as well.
The guest list for this show is pretty impressive and includes names like Adam West(Batman), Burt Ward(Robin), Stan Lee(’nuff said), James Marsters(Spike from Buffy), Dave Prowse(Vader), Jeremy Bulloch(Boba Fett), Sid Haig(Captain Spaulding) and many, many more. Will do a post later to go into detail.
Batman, Robin, Man of Bats and Knight are the first series of figures from Grant Morrison’s BATMAN INC. line, which saw the Batman universe multiplied internationally as the bat-cowl was franchised. All over the world, Batman and Robin had counterparts of different origins, races and cultures and it created a whole new crop of great stories.
In the first series, we get Bruce Wayne as a newly-reinstated Batman, Damian Wayne as Robin, the Native American Batman Man of Bats and the English Superhero Knight (of Knight and Squire). Each one comes with accessories, features multiple points of articulation and stands about 6 inches tall. If you were a fan of the story arc, you’ll definitely want to get your hands on one or all of these brand new figures!
Oh heck yes! Anyone who has played Batman: Arkham Asylum should be psyched about Arkham City! Arkham Asylum took place in Arkham Asylum, as you may have guessed. It’s premise was that the Joker had taken over the asylum and let all of the inmates loose. Luckily (or unluckily) all of the inmates happen to be some of your favorite Batman villains. Arkham City will be no different and features the likes of Catwoman, Two-Face, and some lesser known villains like Calendar Man. Just check the trailer out:
And to tide you over until the game comes out in October (yeesh) Series 2 of the Arkham Asylum figures are on their way!
I’m a big fan of the Mayfair Theatre and since this marks the start of another month, it means there’s going to be new programming! See, I can talk about this ’cause I can tie it all into action figures that we have here.
So, first up on Sunday, September 5th at 9:00PM the Mayfair will be showing The Crow!
Somehow this movie (for me) is not very good and really fantastic all at the same time. It’s not even a “so bad it’s good” movie. It’s somehow simultaneously bad and good. Also, for whatever reason, Brandon Lee is really cool and Jay looks an awful lot like him.
Next up on September 14th starting at 7:00 the May will be showing Rocky IIIandRocky IV!
Rocky III is the one that has both Mr. T and Hulk Hogan in it. That pretty much does it for me right there, but you know that we also have guys from Rocky IV too!
The last movie I should mention is being played on Saturday, September 25th at 3:00PM and Sunday, 26th at 8:00PM. It’s Batman: The Movie!
This isn’t your Dark Knight, or even your Tim Burton Batman. This is Adam West Batman. Arguably the most entertaining of the Batmans. While we don’t have anything Adam West Batman in particular, we do have our fair share of Batmans here at the store.
Well, that about sums it up. If you haven’t checked out the Mayfair Theatre at Bank and Sunnyside, you should really see it. It’s a great old theatre with a totally different vibe from the multiplexes. They play some great matinées on the weekend for kids, some great old cult movies late at the night for the adults, and some of the more obscure, current movies playing in between. Prices are really good too, especially if you’re a member.
Also, don’t forget to buy toys from Toys on Fire! :^)
