Otakuthon is now over, and boy did we have a blast! We saw some really great costumes this year, check out the photos below. We saw everything from Sailor Moon and Minecraft Creepers to TinTin and a guy Dressed as a Battleship!
This show keeps getting bigger and better each year with an increasingly growing number of attendees and A-list special guests. Look out Anime North because we have got the makings of a future contender here!
Also, it looks like we will be headed to the Montreal Comic-Con in September. The guest list includes Adam West and Stan Lee. Stay tuned for updates!
Toys on Fire will be helping Montreal get its anime fix this year yet again! Otakuthon 2011 happens between Friday, August 12th and Sunday, August 14th. It all goes down at the Palais des congrès de Montréal which is a beautiful, colourful building. I can’t think of anywhere better to have an anime convention. We always have a really good time. If you’re in Montreal at that time, you should come say “Bonjour.”
The boss is on vacation, so we decided we’re going to have another little sale. What’s on sale, you ask? Take a gander at this handy-dandy list:
Model Kits – 10% Off
Silly Bands – $1 Each
Transformers – 5% Off
Webkinz – Free Accessories
Hockey Figures – 10% Off
All Anime Stuff – Convention Prices (15% Off)

The Anime stuff is actually slightly better than convention prices. Normally we just do no tax, but we’re making them all 15% off because 15% is a rounder number.
Don’t tell Phu, either. I don’t want to get in trouble.
It’s that time of year again! Anime North 2011 is coming this May 27-29 at the Convention Centre by the international airport in Toronto. Entry passes are available for order at the Anime North website. Toys on Fire will be there bringing lots of goods like Plushies, Jewelry, and Decorative Swords from all of your favorite Anime, Video Games, and Sci-Fi series.
For those of you who are interested in these topics, I highly recommend that you go one year and check it out. There are normally about 25000 people each year who make it, and a large portion of them get into some wicked costumes!
The schedule includes discussion panels with the industry, dance balls, live music and art shows, lan parties, and much more! It looks like this year there will be a performance by Japanese Elektro Punk Rock Band “The Fool”
Our good pals from the Ottawa Anime Convention Naru 2 U are going to be at our Halloween Party! They’ve graciously donated some tickets for Naru 2 U as prizes (anime fans, this is your chance) and they’ll also being selling tickets to a big New Years Eve party they’ll be hosting as well. They will also be giving you information on their great convention so you can finally make up your mind over whether you should go (you should.)
Remember, the Naru 2 U convention happens November 12 – 14 at the Travelodge on Carling Ave. See you there!
So last weekend was Anime North and for the first time ever featured the Toys On Fire crew! Everyone there had a blast and we’re confident we made an impression on the anime crowd. For those who don’t know, Anime North is the biggest Anime Convention in Canada, bringing in over 18000 people from all over the world! Props to all the great costumes we saw, and boy was there a variety! Now that it’s over though, we can’t wait for next year when we get to do it all again!
Are your walls naked? Cover ‘em up before they get embarrassed! Get some anime posters! We’ve got some Final Fantasy, Naruto, Bleach, Gundam, Trigun, Cowboy Bepop, OnePiece, Bruce Lee, D-Gray Man, X Hunter, Ah! My Goddess, Astroboy, Initial D, Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Full Metal Alchemist, and many more. So now you haven’t got an excuse, especially considering they’re $2.95, or 2 for $5! It’s crazy.
