Heroes Force on CTV

Saturday, January 7th, 2012

On Thursday night, Heroes Force (the Canadian Military action figures), was featured on CTV. It caused a phenomenon I like to call “Hot Cake Syndrome”. Suddenly, Friday morning, we had sold out of the figures completely, and their were about 40 messages on our machine wondering when we would get more! This was at 8AM, 2 hours before we actually open.

So we’re trying our darnedest to get more to meet the demand. Until then, we’re just taking orders and creating a waiting list of sorts. It’s first come, first serve, and we’re not charging credit cards until the order is filled (obviously). Take a look at the CTV report here at this link:

Movember’s Men of Maction!

Friday, November 4th, 2011

mac·tion/makSHən/

Noun:

  1. The fact or process of doing something with a moustache, typically to achieve an aim: “demanding tougher action against the non-moustachioed”.
  2. A compound word made up of “moustache” and “action”.

We here at Toys on Fire love Movember, but did you know that many of our action figures also celebrate Movember all year round?  Come and let me show you our favourites:

Sgt. Bazooka

Sgt. Bazooka’s moustache is sort of like the cherry on top of his amazing look.  Sgt. Bazooka also wears a sand-camo helmet and a football jersey.  This guy knows how to war, and knowing is half the battle!

The Comedian

The Comedian is the not-so-good-guy we love to hate, and his moustache just helps that hate a little more.  His moustache helps define the era he’s from, but did you also notice it’s a reverse-Hitler ‘stache?

Doctor Strange

It’s telling that the most powerful being in the Marvel Universe has a moustache.  Moustaches naturally give bonuses to magical ability, it’s just a fact.  Also, I just noticed this, but this particular figure of Doctor Strange looks an awful lot like Shane from the Walking Dead TV show.

Commissioner Gordon

Alfred and Commissioner Gordon, two of Batman’s most important friends, have moustaches.  Batman trusts moustaches it seems, and Commissioner Gordon is about as trustworthy as it gets.  I bet all the Robin’s would grow moustaches if they could.  And when I look to Batman’s Rogue Gallery, I can only think of one moustachioed villain…

Ra’s Al Ghul

…and that villain is Ra’s Al Ghul!  When it comes to moustaches, he’s got one of those “yeah, I guess that counts” moustaches.  It’s called a Fu Manchu and it’s not even an impressive one!  You’d think a guy who’s over 600 years old could grow more facial hair!  The more I look at it, the more I think that this particular ‘chu just looks like lazy mutton chops.  Maybe that’s why Batman keep beating you, Ra’s.

Machete

I think everyone can agree that this action figure is really just a Danny Trejo action figure.  The guy has such a distinct face, he’s pretty much just Danny Trejo is every movie he’s in, and I’m okay with this.  One of Danny’s most distinct attributes is his ‘stache and it just suits him so well.  If only I could grow one that powerful, maybe I could be a Machete-throwing tough-guy like Danny.

Quentin Turnbull

Jonah Hex may be one on the worst films ever made, but I assure you Quentin Turnbull’s moustache was glorious!  He had one those moustaches that were so thick, you couldn’t tell where  his moustache ended and his sideburns began!

Tony Stark

Are you a millionaire playboy?  Ater seeing Iron Man’s Robert Downy Jr. rock a seriously classy ‘stache, I’m sure you’re dying for one too!  For Tony Stark, the moustache is all about class with a hint of mystery!  He’s one of the most intelligent men alive, and I bet most of that brain-power is generated whenever the ‘stache is stroked!  It’s like static electricity, but smarter.

Mario Mario

And, of course, we end with the most famous moustache of them all:  Super Mario!  No one quite has a moustache like Mario, except for Luigi, but that makes sense, since they’re brothers.  I’ve never seen Mario without a moustache, except for when he was a baby on Yoshi’s Island, but I bet he grew one at age 2.  I’d say Mario’s moustache is more iconic than his hat.  It is truly the moustache of a hero.

So there you have it, just a small selection of moustachioed maction figures.  Of course we have more!  Come take a look and maybe get some inspiration for your Movember efforts!

BATMAN REBORN: Four New Figures

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

It’s been a weird one. Grant Morrison’s always slightly out of left field in his comics writing, but when it comes to Batman, the whole RIP/Reborn/Return saga has definitely been one of the strangest arcs ever to hit Gotham city. Which has, of course, led to the new line of toys being some of the strangest DC’s ever made under the Batman name.

Each one stands about 7 inches tall and has the smooth sculpting that seems to be DC Direct’s trademark lately, low-detail but high-definition, which gives each one a great iconic look that seems ripped from the comic pages. The first series has just arrived and you can pick it up right here!

Jonah Hex 6-inch Figures Arrive! Plus, the Reviews are Coming in!

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

The Jonah Hex figures have arrived and fans will be pleased to know that they look great, with likenesses that manage to do justice to John Malkovich as Quentin Turnbull , Josh Brolin as Jonah Hex and, of course, fan favourite and femme fatale Megan Fox as Leila. Each one stands about 6 inches tall and you can expect weaponry from the film to accompany the figures. Not to mention some pretty sweet cowboy hats. Look for the figures over in our Jonah Hex section:

- Josh Brolin as Jonah Hex
- John Malkovich as Quentin Turnbull
- Megan Fox as Leila
- Set of all 3 figures

Now, we know the figures are awesome and the Hex figure would make a great buy for fans of the character even beyond the film. But unfortunately, it seems like the movie itself isn’t looking too hot as it makes its way into theatres… Right Celebrity reports:

Early Hex reviews have called the western picture the possible “worst film of 2010”!

First the plot – “The U.S. military makes a scarred bounty hunter with warrants on his own head an offer he cannot refuse: in exchange for his freedom, he must stop a terrorist who is ready to unleash Hell on Earth.”

Sounds pretty good so far, right? Plenty of possible action ahead, decent plot and with a great cast line up of stars from Josh Brolin, to Megan Fox, John Malkovich, Will Arnett and Michael Fassbender. Apparently the Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor penned story falls short thereafter due to the mix of sci-fi with reality. Brolin’s alter ego, Jonah Hex, and his ability to resurrect the dead for interrogation purposes conjured a few chuckles among movie critics, calling it “stupid, supernatural bulls**t”!

Here’s what ComicBookMovie.com had to say when it came to Hex:

“I dont want to give away the ending but I will say the final showdown between Turnbull and Jonah Hex wasn’t very climactic. And honestly that was my biggest problem of the movie was the rhythm of it. It has a good story line but it was not well paced. It was slow for too long so as the viewer you would loose interest in the movie. I wouldn’t go as far as saying its the worst cbm ever, but I will say it had so much potential and I honestly was really let down.”

One source also went on to say that “Even with low expectations this film was a complete and utter mess.” Overall opinions in regards to the plot just go from bad to worse.

“I can tolerate a mediocre plot as long as I’m not bored out of my skull, but Jonah Hex meanders aimlessly for the majority of its runtime.”

Toy Story 3 is sure to leave Brolin and his crew in the dust this week since the pair open on the same day!

“Sadly, there’s no fixing this one. The problems are deeply rooted, and can’t be solved with an edit. Massive reshoots would be required, and that’s not going to happen before the 18th of June.”
