We haven’t talked about DC Universe in a while, but they’re still around and just as awesome as ever before! The latest addition to the line is Series 20 featuring the likes of: Hawk, Dove, Green Arrow, Red Arrow, Reverse Flash, Sinestro Corps Sinestro, and White Lantern Flash.

Unfortunately, I’m only really familiar with Green Arrow. If you look at what Green Arrow is all about in terms of “superness”, he appears to be lamer than Aquaman, but for some reason he’s always managed to elevate his coolness higher than the sum of his parts. Maybe it’s his Robin Hood vibe that resonates with us.

Hawk and Dove I’ve heard of, and they have had cameos in comics I’ve read, but I don’t know anything about them.

White Lantern Flash and Sinestro are from the Blackest Night/Brightest Day storylines, although I’m not sure which since I haven’t read them yet.

And I’m just going to assume that Reverse Flash is the slowest man alive. He’s was the little-known third founding member of Sunn 0))) but was fired for playing too slow. He’s incredibly sneaky because his movements are imperceptible to the human eye, and his patience knows no bounds!

But all joking aside, DC Universe is still the best place to get definitive action figures for DC. They just might be the best action figures for super heroes, period. Marvel Universe comes close, but it’s no contest when you compare 3 3/4″ with 6″ figures. Recently, Diamond Select has been a worthy adversary with their Marvel Select line. The sculpts and detail just keep getting better and better! Maybe I’m just a sucker for bigger action figures.

WOO! Great news! Ottawa is finally getting its own Comiccon! This is such a new development, they haven’t even got a proper website yet! These are just minor details, as we know we have to be there! We’ve already grabbed a couple of tables, and we’re looking forward to it. All we know so far is it will be happening May 12 – 13, we will keep updating the blog as we learn more details.

Next Destinies is the newest Pokemon set to come out and it’s red hot! Even though it’s been out for a couple of weeks now, people are buying it by the boxful mostly due to that card: Mewtwo. This is a Full Art EX card. Full Art is exactly like how it sounds: the card shows the full artwork of the Pokemon and doesn’t bother with that little box. EX cards are cards are more powerful version of Pokemon, but with a special drawback: when an EX Pokemon is defeated, the attacking trainer takes two prize cards instead of one. Also, EX and Full Art Pokemon are extremely rare so when they’re combined into one card, they are highly sought after – they’re also just plain rad.

In all seriousness, we just restocked a bunch of boxes, but we’re having a Pokemon event today, so who knows how many we’ll have left by the time it’s over! Those Pokemon fans are voracious! Come in ASAP if you want to get some new cards!

By the way, I bought the Reshiram deck, and so far it’s undefeated. The decks for this set are wicked!

Toys on Fire will be selling toys at the Capital Parents & Kids Show run by Capital Parents Magazine. The show is at the Nepean Sportsplex from March 31 to April 1. We’ve never done one of these shows before, but it only makes sense for a toy store to be at the gathering centered around parents and their kids! I really don’t know what this show is all about, so it’s hard for me to elaborate on the goings-on, but we’ll be there!

It’s funny, all toys at Toys on Fire should be hot toys! But we’re talking about Hot Toys here (with a capital H & T)! They’re easily one of the best toy manufacturers going right now and they hail from Hong Kong. They usually do toys from movie licenses and the likeness are out of control! We just got in a Captain America, Special War Machine, Captain Jack Sparrow, and a Classic Predator! Each comes with an inordinate amount of accessories and extra parts so you can pose them just right.

The prices also reflect the level of detail that go into these, but we’re not here to talk about prices, are we? No! We’re here so you can learn about amazing new toys! But seriously, these aren’t toys you really want to tell your wife/husband/financial planner about. Unless they’re cool like that.  We know a couple of significant-other who are “cool like that” and we think they’re pretty cool.
