Tuesday, September 7th 2010

Monday, September 20th 2010

Tuesday, October 5th 2010

Monday, October 18th 2010

Tuesday, November 2nd 2010

Monday, November 15th 2010

Tuesday, November 30th 2010

Monday, December 13th 2010

Time: 6:30pm – 10:00pm (Extended Store Hours)

Games: We bring a different selection of games every night and also encourage attendees to bring in some of their games that they would like to get played. The is always a wide variety of options.

The Setup: Again we will have 4 large tables setup with potential seating for 16-20 people indoors.

Food / Drink: We have cold cans of pop and water bottles available for purchase as well as a large selection of assorted candy/gum for those who don’t want to bring their own snacks.

Bring Friends! Please invite friends and tell others about these events. We always love to see new faces and want to develop the size of the gaming community in Ottawa.

One final note: While we want as many people to play the games they want to play as possible, it does mean we may not have either enough interest or players to play certain games. If you come with the intention of playing a specific game, please do not be discouraged if we do not play it this time. We want everyone to have an open mind about trying new games they haven’t played before.

Hope to see you all There!
Also a special thank you to those of you who show up regularly and help others to play games!

Movies at the Mayfair

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

I’m a big fan of the Mayfair Theatre and since this marks the start of another month, it means there’s going to be new programming! See, I can talk about this ’cause I can tie it all into action figures that we have here.

So, first up on Sunday, September 5th at 9:00PM the Mayfair will be showing The Crow!

Somehow this movie (for me) is not very good and really fantastic all at the same time. It’s not even a “so bad it’s good” movie. It’s somehow simultaneously bad and good. Also, for whatever reason, Brandon Lee is really cool and Jay looks an awful lot like him.

Next up on September 14th starting at 7:00 the May will be showing Rocky III and Rocky IV!

Rocky III is the one that has both Mr. T and Hulk Hogan in it. That pretty much does it for me right there, but you know that we also have guys from Rocky IV too!

The last movie I should mention is being played on Saturday, September 25th at 3:00PM and Sunday, 26th at 8:00PM. It’s Batman: The Movie!

This isn’t your Dark Knight, or even your Tim Burton Batman. This is Adam West Batman. Arguably the most entertaining of the Batmans. While we don’t have anything Adam West Batman in particular, we do have our fair share of Batmans here at the store.

Well, that about sums it up. If you haven’t checked out the Mayfair Theatre at Bank and Sunnyside, you should really see it. It’s a great old theatre with a totally different vibe from the multiplexes. They play some great matinées on the weekend for kids, some great old cult movies late at the night for the adults, and some of the more obscure, current movies playing in between. Prices are really good too, especially if you’re a member.

Also, don’t forget to buy toys from Toys on Fire! :^)

NEW World of Warcraft Figures

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Following the announcement of Blizzard Entertainment’s Special Edition World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, here’s a look at what DC Direct has in-store for fans of the game looking for something awesome to add to their toy-shelves.

HUMAN PALADIN JUDGE MALTHRED

ORC ROGUE GARONA

WORGEN SPY GARM WHITEFANG

The figures range between 7 and 9 inches and look absolutely stunning, based on the high-detail concept art that World of Warcraft. The armour, the weapons and all the accessories look just as good as the characters’ faces, be they bare skin or covered in dense fur. I have to say that, even as a non-WOW-er, I can’t help but be impressed by the look of these figures–I’ve even considered picking up a few just for the styling of them. As fantasy figures, they really are a cut above. These guys will be shipping in November and join a huge collection of World of Warcraft toys already in stock!
