Anyone using a Mac or Playstation product and wants to read DC comics will be in luck! No longer will you have to own real, PAPER copies, and risk paper cuts! NO! Now you can do everything digitally! This is definitely something good for the iPad. Here’s the full article if you’re curious.
DC Comics, publisher of Superman, Batman, Green Lantern and Fables, is partnering with comiXology and PlayStation®Network for two separate digital comics distribution deals launching today, Wednesday, June 23. In addition, a DC Comics App for the iPhone®, iPad® and iPod® Touch is available allowing consumers an easy way to access DC Comics’ content. The announcement was made jointly today by DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Digital Distribution.
Could this be the beginning of web-exclusive-comics action figures from the Big Two? That would be kind of neat, actually.
well the Gogos are still going strong, and once again a good time was had by all this past Saturday, June 19th!

Well, his plastic likeness is (probably) coming in McFarlane NHL Series 26! I can already hear all the ladies in Ottawa swooning. The Senators fans will be happy too. Alongside Mr. Fisher will also be Jaroslav Halak (maybe,) Alex Ovechkin, Jimmy Howard, Zach Parise, Ryan Kesler, Dion Phaneuf, and Ryan Miller. Of course this is announcement is all just hear-say so far and the set isn’t due out ’til “December” (*cough* late January 2011 *cough*) but we’re hoping! Mike, put on a goofy smile if you’re hoping too.
I thought so.
The Jonah Hex figures have arrived and fans will be pleased to know that they look great, with likenesses that manage to do justice to John Malkovich as Quentin Turnbull , Josh Brolin as Jonah Hex and, of course, fan favourite and femme fatale Megan Fox as Leila. Each one stands about 6 inches tall and you can expect weaponry from the film to accompany the figures. Not to mention some pretty sweet cowboy hats. Look for the figures over in our Jonah Hex section:
Now, we know the figures are awesome and the Hex figure would make a great buy for fans of the character even beyond the film. But unfortunately, it seems like the movie itself isn’t looking too hot as it makes its way into theatres… Right Celebrity reports:
Early Hex reviews have called the western picture the possible “worst film of 2010”!
First the plot – “The U.S. military makes a scarred bounty hunter with warrants on his own head an offer he cannot refuse: in exchange for his freedom, he must stop a terrorist who is ready to unleash Hell on Earth.”
Sounds pretty good so far, right? Plenty of possible action ahead, decent plot and with a great cast line up of stars from Josh Brolin, to Megan Fox, John Malkovich, Will Arnett and Michael Fassbender. Apparently the Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor penned story falls short thereafter due to the mix of sci-fi with reality. Brolin’s alter ego, Jonah Hex, and his ability to resurrect the dead for interrogation purposes conjured a few chuckles among movie critics, calling it “stupid, supernatural bulls**t”!
Here’s what ComicBookMovie.com had to say when it came to Hex:
“I dont want to give away the ending but I will say the final showdown between Turnbull and Jonah Hex wasn’t very climactic. And honestly that was my biggest problem of the movie was the rhythm of it. It has a good story line but it was not well paced. It was slow for too long so as the viewer you would loose interest in the movie. I wouldn’t go as far as saying its the worst cbm ever, but I will say it had so much potential and I honestly was really let down.”
One source also went on to say that “Even with low expectations this film was a complete and utter mess.” Overall opinions in regards to the plot just go from bad to worse.
“I can tolerate a mediocre plot as long as I’m not bored out of my skull, but Jonah Hex meanders aimlessly for the majority of its runtime.”
Toy Story 3 is sure to leave Brolin and his crew in the dust this week since the pair open on the same day!
“Sadly, there’s no fixing this one. The problems are deeply rooted, and can’t be solved with an edit. Massive reshoots would be required, and that’s not going to happen before the 18th of June.”
It is a spinning top game. Each spinning top is either a plastic or metal, roughly two inches in diameter. It has a plastic rip cord and when you pull the rip cord out the spinning top flies off and spins. You can battle against each other in a plastic arena and the aim is to knock your opponent out. You can do battle in a specialized Beyblade battle arena.
Here is what a Beyblade looks like in its packaging:
There is also a cartoon series produced in Japan based on this spinning top game. The series focuses on a group of kids who form teams with which they battle one another using highly powerful spinning tops called “Beyblades” which are enchanted with magical spirits
Here is a short Japanese Youtube video of Beyblades in action:
Music fans, did you ever get the feeling they stopped doing music figures? Well they pretty much did, but it looks like we’re going to get another legend cast in plastic: Mr. Bob Marley! This has been a long time coming, but I guess they were on island time. It’s sculpted after the famous “Live at the Rainbow” look, and it looks awesome! They’ll be coming in 7″ and 18″. I’m sure I’ll be seeing people skanking our way to get one this August!
Hello all!
Many of you have heard about Gogo’s, the kids’ gaming sensation that’s sweeping the nation, but have you heard about our Gogo tournaments? That’s right, here at Toys on Fire we host bi-weekly Gogo tournaments, and are they ever popular!
Intrigued? Here’s how it works: kids register at the store to enter the tournament, there are 20 spaces per tournament, and registration is only $5. Those twenty kids then come to the store and play in five round-robin events, (outside the store if the weather is good, inside if it isn’t) and in each event their scores are recorded. After those five events, their scores are tallied up and the top four scoring kids play in the championship round for first, second and third place prizes. There are also door prizes kids can win too!
Frequently Asked Questions: Q: Will I lose my Gogos if I lose a game?
A: No. You are competing for prizes from the store, not each other. You never play for Keeps at Toys on Fire Q: Can I leave my children here and pick them up when the tournament is over?
A: this is always a tricky question to answer. The answer is yes, but only if you would otherwise leave them alone in a store for two hours. They will be busy and they are not likely to get into trouble during the tournament, but ultimately your children are still your responsibility, not the responsibility of toys on Fire or its’ staff. We will of course do our best to prevent any difficult situations, and if you need to leave, please leave a phone number to call in case of emergencies. Q: Are parents allowed to watch?
A: Of course you are! Your kids are competing, and even though it’s as friendly a competition as we can make it, just like any competition, your kids will appreciate your support and encouragement! And if you’re bored and looking for something to do, we very much appreciate parent volunteers to help us keep track of games and scores. We try to make things go as smoothly as possible, and volunteers really help that! The Games:

If you need to cancel your registration for any reason, please let us know by the Thursday before the event (48 hours notice) in order to receive a refund.
Due to the popularity of these events, there are always kids on a waiting list wanting to play. If you are registered for the event but do not show up by 2:00pm, the time at which the tournament starts, and we have not heard from you, we will have to count you as a no-show and let someone else play in your place. We apologize for any inconvenience.
If you are running late and will not be here before the start of the tournament, please call ahead (613-825-0688) and let us know to expect you.
Each contestant is responsible for keeping track of their own Gogos. We will try to make sure that mix-ups do not occur, but the responsibility is yours. The best way to keep track of your gogos is to mark them with a permanent marker, but if you do not want to mark them, you will have to remember which are yours.
We recommend that you not bring your Wanted or Most Wanted Gogos to play with. If you wish to you are welcome to, but they do not provide any advantage in play, and you risk scratching them.
Well that’s all for now, stay tuned for some Gogo tips and tricks to improve your game, because pretty soon things will be getting MUCH more interesting for our Expert players… more to come later! See you at the tournament — Jay
