So, just this last week I finally got a Fugitoid figure to go with my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle’s collection. Here’s a picture of what he looks like:
Fugitoid
Now, for those of you who don’t know, Fugitoid was a one-off comic (comic slang “intended to only be a single issue”) released by Mirage Studios in 1985. Mirage is an independent comic publisher who owned the Ninja Turtles up until just last year (Nickelodeon now owns it, but that’s another story.)
At the end of Fugitoid, his path crosses with the Turtles and the story continues on in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #5 and that’s why I ended up needing a Fugitoid figure. (For a full plot synopsis click here.)
Anyway, I was reading on Peter Laird’s blog, and I found some interesting information on the history of the Fugitoid figure. It seems that Peter had wanted a Fugitoid action since around 1988 or 1989, and he had always wanted it to have a metallic finish (a process known as “vacuum metalizing.”) Playmates (the dudes who make TMNT toys) decided it would be best to hold off on the expensive process of “vacuum metalizing” since Fugitoid hadn’t even made his cartoon debut yet. What Playmates came out with was a C-3PO coloured Fugitoid:
Fugitoid C-3PO
It was an okay figure, and his chest opened up to reveal several robo-parts, but I don’t think it did the original design justice. Through-out the years, it became a running joke between Peter Laird and the Playmates rep that Peter wouldn’t stop asking for figures to be vacuum-metalized. Even when they finally did another Fugitoid figure years later, he was painted in a silver matte-finish.

Then something happened! Basically on the eve of the Nickelodeon sale of the Turtles, Laird finally got his wish, and a vacuum-metalized Fugitoid finally came out. He even decorated his tree with about 50 Fugitoids! As for a review of the toy, this is an essential toy for any TMNT collector. I only wish it was pose-able and the packaging wasn’t just a white box. It does make a nice desk decoration, though.
Black Lantern Aquaman, Green Lantern Arisia, Orange Lantern Larfleeze and Star Sapphire have officially been added to the 6-inch figure collection as Blackest Night Series 3! Take a look:
The figures from this line will soon be joined by the likes of Black Lantern Nekron, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern Kyle Rayner and more! So be sure to check ‘em all out!
Designer Vinyl Action Figures, Official Licensed Merchandise The designer vinyl toys feature the 3 official mascots
Miga, Quatchi, Sumi – along with their mini sidekick Mukmuk. The 3 official mascots are available both as individual figures, and together as part of a special collector’s set of 4 figures with an exclusive Mukmuk and his foam finger.
Quatchi is one of the official olympic mascots of the games. He’s a friendly, fully poseable sasquatch with moveable arms, hands, and legs. While he’s shy and often hangs out in forests, Quatchi will happily join you in your travels to new places. He’s also a big hockey fan and loves to play goalie… though his toy-sized figure isn’t quite big enough to fill a hockey net.
Miga™ Action Figure
Vinyl Figure Height: 2.25″
Miga is one of the official olympic mascots of the games. She’s a playable sea bear figure with moveable fin-arms and a swivelling head. Just what are sea bears? They’re orca whales that turn into bears when they come onto land. But Miga got stuck so she’s now part orca and part bear! Be sure to bring Miga along if you’re going surfing, snowboarding, or doing anything fun and exciting!
Sumi™ Action Figure
Vinyl Figure Height: 2.85″
Sumi is the official paralympic mascot of the games. He’s an animal spirit figure with furry legs that turn and and a head that swivels. As you can see from his action figure Sumi is quite an unique critter. He wears the hat of the orca whale, has the wings of the thunderbird and the furry legs of the black bear. Sumi loves the outdoors, alpine skiing, and flying over the mountains with his friends on his back.
Bonus Mukmuk™Action Figure*
Vinyl Figure Height: 1.5″
Mukmuk is the much loved sidekick to the mascots, and is a marmot who lives on Vancouver Island. While he’s the smallest figure, he loves to eat and cheer his heart out. Bring Mukmuk with you to the games to help you cheer!
Mukmuk comes with a special foam finger accessory to cheer all the athletes at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
*Mukmuk is exclusive to the Collector’s Set, and is not available individually*
So some new Street Fighter figures came out from NECA. Unfortunately, they weren’t Sonny Chiba’s Street Fighter toys. They were Guile, Ken, and Ryu toys, though, with spooky gray hair and spooky black outfits. Here they are:
Street Fighter IV – Guile
Street Fighter IV – Ken
Street Fighter IV – Ryu
Oh, and if you’re old enough, you should see Sonny Chiba’s Street Fighter. Just to give you an idea of how crazy it is, it was Rated-X when it first came out. That’s just for insane violence, though. And if you’re feeling especially masochistic, see Jean-Claude Van Damme’s Street Fighter or Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li - the latter of which I haven’t seen yet. I haven’t felt crazy enough to watch it yet.
Disney answered my prayers. With the teaser for Tron Legacy they said “Who wants a new Tron movie?” And anyone with eyeballs said, “I do, I do!”
So this puppy is going to have great special effects, it’s going be in IMAX 3D, and it has one more piece of the puzzle that made my ears drool (it’s a disgusting condition, I know, but I couldn’t help it.) They announced Daft Punk (the best electronic duo (probably) ever) would be doing the soundtrack! Thinking about this, I can’t imagine another band doing a soundtrack for a new Tron movie. It’s a match made in heaven. This movie will be a feast for the senses! I won’t even care if the movie turns out to be as mentally stimulating as Avatar, my brain will be too busy screaming due to sensory overload!
Here’s the trailer:
Here’s a clip of Daft Punk’s piece of the soundtrack.
That soundtrack thing could be fake, but it sounds pretty good anyway.
