Bakugan Tournament Episode VIII: Crisis on Infinite Gate Cards

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Hey Folks,

We’ve got all the info on the new tournament ready for you, along with some exciting new news. First things first, we’re changing the way were running the tournament:

Divisions: From now on we will be running the tournament in 3 divisions: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. Beginner is for younger players and those new or inexperienced with Bakugan, Intermediate is for those older players or ones who enjoy playing just for fun, and Advanced is for the pros and those who want to play to win. Each division will take a maximum of 8 player

Prizes: First of all, we will no longer have door prizes. Instead however, prizes will go to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd players for EACH division. So that’s 9 prizes all around! We’ll also have a small surprise for all participants who attend. Also, prizes will be handed out as each division ends.

Training Days: We’ve got 3 training days planned for kids and parents to learn how to play the game or just get practice. We will also be using the training days to gauge which division each player should belong in. These workshops are free and we highly recommend attending one.

Trading Day: We’ve also had requests for a Bakugan Trading day, so we’ve decided that we’ll give it a try. The trading day will take place at the same time as the Workshop on Tuesday August 4th. Kids will be free to trade bakugan and cards, but all trades will have to go through either parents (of both children) or a staff member. This is to make sure all trades are fair (No Tigrerra’s for Metalfencers).

Games Played: In the past, some tournaments would get in more games than other because of how fast or slow some games went. From now on, to ensure steady progress and not too much time spent waiting, the tournament will comprise of 3 rounds (lasting 30 minutes) with 15 minutes between each round.

Time Limit: When time is called, each player will have 5 shots left to try to win or get as many gate cards as they can. At the end of the 5 shots, the player wiht the most gate cards wins. In case of ties, it will go to a shootout.

Registration Fees: We have an early bird registration fee of $5 for any participant who registers and pays before Sunday, August 9th. Anytmie afterwards, the fee will be $7.

So without Further Ado, here is all the other information that you will need:

Time: Sunday, August 15th, 2-4PM

Transformers 2 Party!

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

A big “Thank You” goes out to the 35 people who came out to party and go see Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen with us.  We had such a good time hanging out with everybody and sharing the experience that was Transformers 2.  We hope everyone else can share the setiment.  Now this would be the part where I post pictures of the party, but I was enjoying myself so much that I forgot to take pictures!  So let’s all use our imaginations and try to remember what a good time it was… oh, and this picture of Megan Fox.

Anyone notice he was completely ungrateful for Jetfire's sacrifice?

Anyone notice he was completely ungrateful for Jetfire's sacrifice?

Who’s got the new Tranformers toys? We’ve got the new Transformers toys! For those of you who have seen an enjoyed the new movie, We’ve got the figures in store calling for you to get your favorite character. For those of you who didn’t enjoy the movie, well there’s always still the toys at least! We’ve got the deluxe class figures Personally, I think the coolest one is the Leader Class Jetfire, the trash-talking-scottish-old-codger of a stealth bomber just kicks so much ass. He even combined with the Leader Class Optimus Prime to replicate the movie (apologies for spoiling that part for people).

Fun little fact:

Robots in the First Transformers: 14

Robots in Transformers 2: 46

Hey Folks!

With the success of our latest bakugan tournament, the masterminds at Toys on Fire quickly got together to brainstorm the possibility of another tournament. So without further ado, we are proud to announce our 8th Bakugan Tournament!

We’re still working out the details of prizes and fee, but rest assured we’ll have more info ASAP. The Thinktank at Toys on Fire is trying to come up with ways that will make the tournament better and more fun for everyone involved. Can’t devulge too many details yet, but here’s a short list of things to expect at the next tournament:

- A Bakugan Training Workshop sometime (maybe a week) before the tournament for kids to learn how to play Bakugan (or practice thier skills if they want)

- More prizes, meaning more people come away with something

- Some rules changes (addition of a time limit for matches, redoing the way we do the ladder)

So stay tuned to our blog for more updates coming soon!

Bakugan Tournament VII Results

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

Wowee Zowee!  Great tournament, you guys, great tournament.   We played 3 rounds of rough and tumble Bakugan with 19 competetors to determine who is the undisputed Bakugan player in all of Ottawa (and perhaps Canada (maybe even the world.))  It tested our weather prediction skills, our math skills, and our ability to actually understand how Bakugan works!  Anyway, here are some pictures from the day, and our winners!

Bakugan Tournament VII: Bakutrap Rules

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

Hey Folks,

We’re been getting asked how Bakugan Traps are going to work for the tournament a lot, so we figure it’s time to let everybody know. here are the official rules from the Bakugan website itself:

3.01: What is a Bakugan Trap?
Normal Bakugan are round and they roll. Bakugan Traps are not round. They come in all kinds of shapes and sizes like football, pyramid, coin, cube, drum, and tetradecahedron.

3.02: How many Bakugan Trap can I use in a game?
You can use up to one Trap in your unused pile at the start of a game. It goes in with your three Gate cards, three ability cards, and three Bakugan.

3.03: How do you play a Bakugan Trap?

You may play one of your Trap during a battle as long as the Trap and Bakugan have the same attribute. For example, if you are using a Pyrus Bakugan in that battle you need to use a Pyrus Trap.

To play your Trap during a battle, take it from your unused pile and drop it onto the Gate Card engaged in battle. When it opens up you will see one or more attribute symbols revealed inside it. You will now change the attribute of your Bakugan to any one of the attributes printed inside your Trap.
Some Bakugan Traps have one hidden attribute symbol. Some have two hidden attribute symbols or more.

Only when you’ve run out of Bakugan in your unused pile and are about to roll should you move your Trap back to your unused pile.

Also included with your Bakugan Trap are their very own ability cards. When you combine the affects of the Trap with the affects of their Ability Cards the power can be devastating.

3.04: How come some Traps have a repeated attribute? Does it do anything special?
Traps with duplicate attributes printed on them do nothing extra special. They work the same as a regular Trap.

Okay, so those are the complex rules  of how to use traps, but for those who still don’t understand, just follow these simple rules:

1. You don’t roll the traps.

2. Traps are played like ability cards that are used during a battle.

3. Traps have to be the same colour as your bakugan in the battle (you can’t use traps on other peoples bakugan)

4. Traps change your colour to one of the other colours (indicated by the symbols on the trap)

There you have it folks! If there are any other questions, feel free to e-mail us at toysonfireott(at)yahoo.com

Happy Brawling!
