Game Summit Winter Skirmish 2009

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

logo_gamesummit-engWoo! Another Game Summit! It’s coming up pretty soon, and we figured we would tell everyone that we’re going to be there again! Last year, the game summit seemed a little Warhammer-oriented, but this year we’ve been assured (and we can trust the Game Summit guys, they’re good guys) that this Game Summit will be more EVERYTHING oriented! Well, more everything in terms of games.

Toys on Fire will be bringing our usual slew of board games/role playing games to be sold with NO TAX, but we will also be having a BAKUGAN tournament for the youngins! That’s right, bring your kids, or ask your parents to come out to the Game Summit ’cause this Bakugan tournament is the big time. You win this tournament, you will be the undeniable Bakugan Champion of Canada.

And if Bakugan isn’t your bag, there will still be Magic: The Gathering, Chaotic, Hero Clix, Stratego, Settlers of Catan, Carcassonne, and all sorts of other activities to tickle your fancy.

Bakugan Tournament Episode IV: A New Harpus – Rules Changes

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

Alright, so some of you may be aware that Spinmaster (the company that makes Bakugan) have made some major changes to Bakugan since it’s inception. When Bakugan Series 2 came out, they redesigned the cards and added ability cards. So for the first tournament of the year, we’re switching from Series 1 rules to Series 2 rules. Here’s an outline of the changes:

  • The object of the game is now to be the first to capture 3 gate cards (HSP will not count for points anymore on Series 1 cards, though they will still be valid to use for the tournament)
  • We will be allowing the use of Ability cards, in fact it’s required to have 3 (1 of each colour).
  • Bakugan can no longer be captured when winning a battle, instead they are moved to the used pile.
  • The setup for 4 players will be changed (pictured below)
  • If you roll a onto a card that already has a Bakugan you own on it, you move the Bakugan you just rolled onto the next closest card. (This will sometimes cause a battle to happen)
  • If there are no other cards in play, you automatically get the gate card.
  • There are no more missed rolls. If a player doesn’t land thier Bakugan, they roll again until they land on a gate card.
  • If there are no cards in play, all players set another gate card down (following the above setup)

So there’s a summary of the changes between Series 1 rules and Series 2 rules. This will mean games will be going by faster, and those who don’t roll very well will have an easier time participating and still having fun. Don’t worry, before we start the tournament, we will be outlining the rules again!

Bakugan Tournament Episode IV: A New Harpus

Monday, January 5th, 2009

Alright folk! It’s that time again: Brawlmasters Gray and Steve here with exciting news about Toys on Fire’s fourth Bakugan Tournament! Is everyone excited? Well I am too! Before I get into the details, I should let everyone know that this event is being held at our store (Toys on Fire) in Ottawa. Sorry to everyone from the online community, but we can’t host tournaments outside of Ottawa. I know you all want to have a tournament as well, especially in Vegas for some reason, but you’ll have to ask your local toy stores to run one.

Alright, so here’s the lowdown on the tournament:

When: Saturday January 31st, 2008 2PM – 4PM

Registration: As usual, you will have to go to our store to register. This time around, since the tournament will not be held outside, we can only take 16 participants. Sorry, but space limitations aren’t very fun for anyone. Registration will cost $3, and this will help to offset the cost of running the event and prizes.

Prizes: 1st: $10 Gift Certificate

2nd: $5 Gift Certificate

3rd: $5 Gift Certificate

Rules: We are currently reviewing the rules, as they have changed a bit with the new B2 series of Bakugan, so check back here for details by the end of the week.

But in the meantime we have this information:

- 3 Bakugan and 3 metal cards per player.

- You may switch your Bakugan between rounds but not during rounds.

- The use of shooters will be allowed; however shooters must shoot from off the arena!

- The tournament will be run in a Round Robin Style. The top players from each table will play a second round. The top player from each table will play a final match to determine who wins.

Hope to see you all out there, brawlin’ it up with your favorite Bakugan!
