RAY EMERY!!!!! NHL 18 is in!

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

The man, the Legend. That is right everyone! NHL Series 18 just came off the truck, and within 1 hour, its on our website, figure wall, and blog for you to gawk at and potentially buy.

I think we may just be the first store in the area to get these, so get them fast, before they are all gone!

This bright series stars a mix of young hot-shots and older legendary players with a slight touch of “why did they put that in there?” Anywho, on with the lineup!

NHL Series 18: <b>Joe Sakic 3

First in line is rock and roll legend(well, not that I know of, but he’s one heck of a hockey player) Joe Sakic. He is featured with the Colorado Avalanche jersey in white with maroon detailing. This team choice is likely because McFarlane has already released a Joe Sakic on the Nordiques, and also this series already has nordiques figures in it. Apparently there is a maroon chase figure of this one, but we didn’t come across it yet in the four cases we got. However, Keep your eyes open, we are bound to have it soon, as we do with everything.

NHL Series 18: <b>Guy Lafleur (Quebec Nordiques)

Guy Lafleur is looking fantastically françois in his Quebec Nordiques Jersey. I just can’t help but love that team, and if you are interested in this series, it certainly helps. If it means anything, this is the only figure that does not have a helmet on, which leads me to believe that McFarlane is now merging the NHL Legends series into the regular series. Either way, a great figure.

NHL Series 18: <b>Mats Sundin 2 (Quebec Nordiques)Next in line, is yes, another Nordiques figure. Say hello to Mats Sundin! I believe this may be his 4th appearance in action figure form, and if he plays his cards right, he just might catch up with Wayne Gretzky’s 8 or 9 figures (I have completely lost count). The figure shows that McFarlane is putting more effort into the faces of these figures, as you will also see in the Jordan Stalls as well. Whether or not that effort is ending up looking like the actual player is a whole other issue.

NHL Series 18: <b>Jordan StaalNext in line is the bodacious (is that even a real word?*) Jordan Staal. And let me tell you, this guy knows how to party. A very nice figure, excellent facial detail, and an alright pose too. He’s just skating along, waiting to pass the puck to Sidney Crosby, I’m sure. There is also a white jersey variant of this figure, and we got one. Very exciting stuff, come check it out online and in store!

NHL Series 18: <b>Ray Emery

And here comes the head-knocker, after 4 series of action figures, and nearly a year of waiting, McFarlane Toys has finally included an Ottawa Senators player their sports picks. RAY EMERY!!!!!!! ……What? No applause? Is this figure too late? Why the glum faces? This goalie only took us to the Stanley cup finals last year, and we have received nearly 100 of this guys figure, so lets all just suck it up and buy him. I believe Ray Emery to be a misunderstood man, stuck in traps the media has laid for him. And hey, if you don’t believe it, then paint his helmet black or pop your favorite Darth Vader head on there.

NHL Series 18: <b>Sheldon SourayLast in the lineup is Sheldon Souray? I don’t even know who this guy is, but apparently he plays defense for the Edmonton Oilers. His figure is in navy blue, and has his stick in the air as if to shoot the puck (An odd pose for a defense man, Todd).

There you have it, my NHL Series 18 review, now everybody come and get Ray!

Cheers,

-Gray

*Of course bodacious is a word.

CanDo at the CanGames

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

This weekend I traveled incognito to CanGames (Ottawa’s gaming convention) under the clever guise of “Conrad Albatross” to see if I could get the inside scoop on Ottawa’s gaming underground. I arrived at the convention center at around 2 pm on Saturday and was instructed to enter through the back door. My accomplice handed me my pass and I began my surveillance of the convention.

On first glance, it appeared to be a gamers paradise: miniatures, role-playing books, and boardgames as far as the eyes could see, but on a closer look it revealed something else… something I’d like to call “mad dealz.” “Mad dealz” is a term you use to describe an excess amount of savings to products you’d normally pay out the nose for. I was immediately drawn to the tables where I could find plenty of old Dungeons and Dragons books. These conventions bring product of the highest, and sometimes rarest quality, and today was no different. Toys on Fire brought its usual, enormous selection of board games (probably the largest in the city) and the prices killed the convention market, as usual. I quickly began to lighten my pockets.

After buying the weight equivalent to a small car in books, I quickly turned my attention to my second mission: finding “mad Warhammer dealz.” I was armed with $120 to get as much on the list as possible for our beloved Stephen- and ending up spending $180. Yes, the “dealz” were this “mad.” These conventions always somehow end up being tax-free, it was amazing.

As the show was winding down our friend Bill showed up after his job to take a look at some “mad dealz” at the show as well. As we all got our fill, Alex and I hopped in Bill’s stretch SUV limo thing and took a ride. That’s right, a DANG (forgive the pun, Dang) LIMO! It had a TV and an intercom, and crazy lights, and beverages, and EVERYTHING. BIG FAT TIRES AND EVERYTHING! I was King of the Town in that limo. Muchos gracias, Bill. We owe you one.

All in all, it was a lot of fun meeting up with our toy/hobby retail brethren, and local hobbyists to nerd out for an afternoon now it’s time for me to go back to being cool.

Why are you laughing? I’m cool, I swear!

I mean, I’m playing D&D tonight, but that doesn’t mean anything! I have an assortment of leather jackets!

…fine, don’t believe me? I’ll just put a HEX ON YOU! Or maybe a plague! A PLAGUE ON BOTH YOUR HOUSES!

Conrad “the Hitman” AlbatRoss. Chris.

May Day for Hockey Cards on the 17th

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

http://www.driverzone.cz/tapetygamesy/Duke_Nukem_004.jpgSo Duke Nukem got released.

What? Old joke? Rehash? Fine. Let’s start again with something new.

May Hockey Card Day! Hurray! The day in May on which to come out and play in the 17th-ay. Now let’s all go to the Bay andHockey Card Shop see if any other their multi-coloured blankets will fray, okay. (Old joke?) Ah, it feels good to get the Seuss out of your system. Now to clarify, the next Hockey Card Trading Day is THIS WEEKEND on Saturday, May 17 from 2-4. Come trade your cards with fellow fans and see how much your cards are worth; all that good stuff. Also, maybe some FABULOUS PRIZES.

For all of you TV watchers out there on the internet: What are you doing on my internet? Get off of it. Now. Go watch TV, like you always do… KIDDING! Feel free to stay on MY internet, but just know who it belongs to, you TV people. However, TV people, we received Series 2 of the Smallville figures. You know, that Superman show? We never saw Series 1 but we’re convinced it was just as cool.

Also, TV people, we got some of those new Animated Transformers figures and they actually look pretty slick in their stylized way. I especially like Prowl with his ninja stars.

This also applies to a sub-category of TVhttp://john.se/blog/wp-content/uploads/2006/11/gears_of_war_250_248370g.jpg people – VIDEO GAME PEOPLE! Those Gears of War figures you’ve waited so long for are finally in featuring Marcus Phoenix and that other guy! These figures were created by NECA whom I believe to have the highest quality figures in the market now. C’mon McFarlane, pull up those socks!

The image “https://toysonfire.ca/images/MfGospelElvis.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors. This sort of applies to TV people, but more so to music people - EVLIS! ELVIS! GOSPEL! Gospel Elvis is in stock for all of Elvis fans, and this figure is once again taken from his revival show. You can see he’s getting fat in this figure, but he’s not quite “fat Elvis” yet. Viva fat Elvis!

Movie people (who are far more considerate then the TV people) I’m going to cover all of your stuff in one paragraph. I was going to try to do it in one sentence, but run on sentences tend to confuse people and I really hate to confuse people because if they get confused then they can’t focus and if they can’t focus then they won’t want to read our blog because we don’t have good grammar and if our grammar is bad then it’s hard to take us serio

We still have a ton of those Iron Man figures in, so if you’re still craving Robert Downy Jr. in a metalhttp://pwbeat.publishersweekly.com/blog/wp-content/2007/12/flip-b.jpg suit then we’re your store. As for the other huge movie, we just got a bunch of Indiana Jones stuff in stock. Ever wanted to recreate a scene with those crazy nazi’s from the third movie, well now you can with the new sets we have. As for you Batman fans, we have a bunch of those movie figures, including the awesome Joker. And last, but not least, we got some of the Hulk figures in. Did you know they’re doing another Hulk movie? Hopefully they do it right this time like Iron Man.

Fans of army related thing will be ELATED to hear we received some G.I. Joe singles restock and McFarlane’s 3 inch Military Series 2. I can’t decided what’s more awesome, Shipwreck and Snowjob or the equivalent to super detailed little green army men (that really aren’t green at all.) Probably Snowjob because I would want to be the only skiing soldier too. Also, Shipwreck should go to Norway.

And lastly, DC UNIVERSE SERIES 2! Yes, we finally have a proper Harley Quinn action figure. And a bunch of other ones too. This latest set is proving that people still buy DC action figures.

That’s all for now, and I understand if you TL;DR’d this post. It really is TL!!!!! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!

NECA Music Figure:<B> Joey RamoneGuys…I am actually going to be 20…..20….20!!!!! Please tell me there is some magic time machine that I can take to go back to a simpler time…Ya know, like when I was 15? No…Lets just go back a year, let me be 19 again…

Anywho…Last weekend was a whirlwind for me, and I guess for Grayson too, we were in Toronto on Friday, for the Sport Card Expo, which somehow, I managed to spend $700, yeah…It was great, but I guess Grayson covered most of that…I still can’t believe he bought a Hamel autograph photo…Like, actually bought it, he could have haggled the guy down to free…I know it. Then, there was Montreal and the Toy Con on Sunday…Somehow, we managed to get lost in Montreal, they blame me, I blame map quest, either way, we found it, and had an awesome time.

Alrighty…Lets get into the new products here at Toys On Fire, we got an awesome figure of Joey Ramone in stock, which you can see to the left of this typing, he thinks he’s so cool with his ripped jeans, and long hair, yeah…

Cool! New Gi Joe packs in too! Remember playing with these as a kid? I don’t, but I am sure I did, this has lots of crazy ninja action going on in it, ninja’s rock, and roll, all night long… and party every day.

We also got a restock of Naruto action figures, Sasuke, and Naruto, 2 of each, they are sure to sell out quick, so get in here, and buy the one you want before someone else does!!!!!

http://www.lomag.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/ironman.jpgIRON MAN MOVIE FIGURES IN STOCK! How cool is this?! Iron man is supposed to be an awesome movie, I guess I will find out Saturday night when I go see it, we have the figures in stock too! Now you can re-inact your favorite scenes of the movie at home in the comfort of your own room! I might buy the regular iron man figure just to have. We also have the trading cards, and binder to go with them, perfect for the collector in you!

Cool…Indiana Jones will prove to be the hottest movie of the summer, and where can you get the toys to go with the movie?! Toys on Fire of course!!! We have them, we have lots of them, come one, come all, and build your own Indiana Jones collection, and while you’re here, buy the movie cards as well. You can get autographs!

scan0006-9.jpg picture by Spezza1919

So, like I said, I managed to spend $700 at the show, the card to the left is my favorite I picked up, sure, the Sens sucked brutally over the past half season, and I am still confident they will be back and better than ever next season. Heatley is also tearing it up at the World Championship, he has become Canada’s all time leading goal scorer, passing the great Steve Yzerman. That, Senators fans, is something to be proud of.

So…The next time I talk to you, I will be 20, :( 20…Jeeze…20…I’ll give $100 to anyone who can make me that time machine I asked for, $100, Im good for it.

Duke Nukem Forever IN STOCK!

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

I bet on Duke last night, and lost everything. Never bet on Duke.No. That was a lie. Duke Nukem Forever is not in stock, and for many good reasons. First off, we don’t sell video games, and more importantly, that game is never coming out. Ever. The title of this blog was simply a clever scheme to get people to read this thing. Anywho… Let’s get on with the news of what’s going on in this place.

Well. That was one wild convention-filled weekend. On Friday Dave and I make the trek over to the Toronto Sport Card Expo, and it was exactly like the video we had posted of it earlier. Which was amazing and huge, lots of great merchandise there. I saw cards I never thought could exist, and also picked up a Denis Hamel autographed photo, which probably shouldn’t exist.

We also got to go to the Montreal Toy Con, where we sold some anime gear and bonded with our compadrés in the booming Montreal toy industry.

So sports fans, we received a butt-load of Webkinz in this week. First and foremost we got the Whimsy Dragon, (commonly referred to as the Whimsy Dagron) the most mystical of all Webkinz, perhaps second only to the Googles. Unfortunately we only managed to get our hands on 6 of them, but there should be more of them coming in later. As for the other Webkinz that are worth far less experience we also have the Gecko, Samoyed, Lioness, L’il Chicken, and the L’il Black Poodle.

Ame Comi Heroine SeriesAme Comi Heroine Series 4 Pre-Order! Glorious day! The prototype images for Ame-Comi Heroine Series 4 Have been released. Check them out ASAP! We have Wonder Woman and Cheetah (who freaks me out immensely) both ready for pre-order. Also if you haven’t caught a glimpse of series 3, do it now! Donna Troy and Zatanna.

Justice League InternationalJustice League International Series 1 Pre-Order. Thats right, DC Direct has gone retro with this new line. We have it now available for pre-order, and the pictures look like something out of the Brady Bunch. The line starts its debut with Batman, Black Canary, G’Nort, and Ice. They should be available just in time for Christmas ’08.

Halo 3 Series 3

Halo 3 Series 3: Update! McFarlane has finally released the prototype images of Halo 3 Action Figures Series 3 so we have updated our Halo 3 Action Figures Section. There are also 3 new figures that have been announced. For those of you who have already pre-ordered these feel free to take a look and if you would like to add to your order give us a call 613-825-0688 and we can fix you up. This series looks even better than the last two.Pre-Order: Halo 3 Figures Series 3: <b> Set Of 7

Bakugan Battle Brawlers
Bakugan Battle Brawlers.
What’s new? Well, Bakugan is still one of our top sellers, and our supplies are running lower and lower. It seems there is some sort of drought going on all over the city, and our suppliers in the United States and Montreal are running empty as well. GET IT WHILE YOU CAN! In the mean time, check out this great video we found, its got clips from the Bakugan TV Show put to our favorite left wing song. We aren’t gay though, or left wing. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Enjoy!
